Nonsensical Scribbles

Random sketches and larger drawings will go here. I may post some bits of writing as well.

Leap of Faith

Urgh, this took longer than anticipated. I am pretty proud of those clouds, and I think the shading looks much better than I’ve ever done. Experimenting with David is probably one of the ways I advance the most in my art, plus he’s just quite a bit of fun to draw.

This computer has no Word. I have to use Zoho.com.

i always waver a little when i consider posting any pro-feminism or pro-equality sentiment on tumblr because of… well.

but actually it turns out to be great because it shows me who i can just block and forget forever

:)

It makes me sad that feminists have to exist only because it means we can’t all consider each other equal and perfect, be you man or woman or in the middle. That we as women actually have to fight for rights that should come naturally to us is a little disheartening.

School is not going to be fun tomorrow. Or rather, I feel like it is going to be boring. Except for the part where I have to dance and using chalk. I hate using chalk, the stuff gives me the willies just touching it. And as for dancing, we won’t go there.

Post-Apocalypse Zelda, Part 1

Something of a personal project, I’ve wanted to do a sort of Future Zelda for some time now, and school tossed this assignment my way: redesign an old video game.

I’ve always wondered what Hyrule would be like in some strange, parallel, bombed out universe, and this is my exploration into that land over the course of 7 weeks. This is part 1 of 2 parts, showing the various character and monster designs I decided to work with. Part 2 will contain more developmental pieces, including some of the environments and props.

Some notes:

For the most part, I tried to stay true to the already established universe, keeping in mind certain mechanics and plot points. Deciding on the enemy selection was difficult: there are many, many signature enemies in the games, and I would have liked to work with all of them. In the end I settled on enemies that had the most impact on me, either through nostalgia (like the Octorok) or gameplay experience (Redeads).

If you’ve got any questions, whether in general or on specific pieces, criticisms, or are curious on my thought process, feel free to drop me a message.

I am not a huge reblogger. I am not even a huge blogger. I mainly have a tumblr to follow other people. But even if this wasn’t Zelda, I would find it breath taking. The shapes are beautiful, the the coloring is superb, and the whole concept design of these characters just made my jaw drop. Good on you, DogBomber. I appreciate this whole heartedly.

AM I allowed to not really care about shipping?

Is that a thing you can do when part of a fandom? Just not really care?

Or maybe even dislike. Perhaps that is a thing. Because honestly, my Homestuck, Korra, and Zelda tags have pretty much devolved into boring arguments, pictures and posts about shipping. Can’t we just appreciate the excellence of these creations themselves without caring who has sloppy makeouts with whom?

wow guys

i’m probably really dumb for not knowing this right now

but a friend on facebook just asked me why fire benders are able to make fire from nothing

while earth and water benders have to have earth and water nearby to use their powers

and i’m not really sure what to tell her since i don’t actually know WHY fire benders can use their powers without a source

Well, fire is just a form of energy, both heat and light. It’s also combustion of oxygen, in which oxygen reacts with something to form something else while releasing heat and light energy. Since the original benders bended (bent?) the chi, or energy of their body, to create bending itself, let’s assume that firebenders use their own energy to cause a reaction of oxygen and something else, or else combust it. Therefore, the firebenders don’t make fire from nothing, they use their chi to ignite the air itself. That may also mean their firebending is much stronger in a place with a higher content of oxygen or any other flammable gas. We can also say that bending does not work in anywhere without oxygen in it’s gas form, so it can’t happen in space or a vacuum in general.

But this is all based on eleventh grade chemistry, which is a class I am not extremely successful in, so I may be incorrect.
